My work at the Institute of Pathophysiology of the Medical University Vienna focuses on the development of new therapeutic strategies against cancer in humans. In the course of my literature search in this field, I became aware that animals can develop tumors similarly to humans. What surprised me was the great similarity of tumor types, which could allow similar treatments.
Like in human medicine, chemotherapies for animals are very expensive. In addition, however, expenses must generally be met by the owners themselves. Since many pet owners cannot afford the therapies available, it is extremely important to develop reasonable alternatives for the treatment of our pet friends. Vaccinations against cancer, for example, could stimulate the animals' immune system to fight cancer cells and would benefit both the patient as well as his/her owner.
By founding the "RedPaw", my co-initiators and I aim at further advancing cancer therapy in the human and veterinary medical field. Meritoriously, distinguished persons from both the Medical University Vienna and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna immediately agreed to support this important initiative.
Please, support the "RedPaw" - because we can only really make a difference together.
